Robin Simpson
Joined us from a large professional services firm and has worked in indirect tax for over 35 years. After spending his first 12 years in VAT with HM Customs & Excise Robin moved on to work in the in house tax team of a major and internationally known distribution business for three years. Robin then moved into the profession and has spent the last 20 years working in the indirect tax teams of some of the “big four” accountancy and tax services firms.
During this time in the profession Robin has worked for many international businesses, but has also advised many major UK based businesses, family owned companies and many regional small and medium sized professional services firms. He has significant experience in dealing with HMRC and negotiating on behalf of clients in order to obtain rulings or achieve some very significant reductions in disputed VAT and duty liabilities. Where opportunities have arisen Robin has also implemented some effective VAT savings structures and submitted many successful retrospective VAT claims for clients so returning significant sums to them. Robin understands the consequences of VAT to all businesses large or small and can provide cost effective and practical advice at all levels. Robin has significant international VAT experience enhanced by a secondment to the Czech Republic in 2004 where he worked closely on the accession of Central European countries into the EU that year. He has particular experience in the areas of manufacturing, food processing, retail, property, service industries, construction and property and government and not for profit organisations.
